How to use sample packs effectively?
Downloading a sample pack is step one. Using it effectively is step two. Here are some tips:
1. Layer your sounds. Combine multiple samples to create something unique. Layer an 808 over a sub-bass, stack hi-hats, or combine two melodies.
2. Process the samples. Use EQ, reverb, distortion and other effects to make the sounds your own. The best producers use samples as a starting point, not an end product.
3. Chop melodies. Cut the melody loops into pieces and rearrange them. This way you create something completely new from existing material.
4. Adjust the pitch. Pitch samples up or down for completely different vibes. A dark melody can sound very different when you throw it up an octave.
5. Combine with your own sounds. Use the pack as a supplement to your own sounds, not as a replacement.
