What is VXR-BL00M?
BL00M is a visual synth: an instrument where sound and image emerge from the same movement. Move your hand up and the pitch rises while the visuals bloom along; close your hand and the sound changes with it.
The result feels more like playing an instrument than operating software. You don't need to know notes: BL00M translates your movements into tones that fit together musically, so what you play always sounds good. Even without music theory.
Two hands, two voices
BL00M tracks both hands and gives each its own role. Your right hand plays the lead: position and movement shape the melody. Bring your left hand into frame and a second voice joins for chords. Together your hands form a complete arrangement.
The openness of your hand counts too: from clenched fist to spread fingers is an expressive axis, like the touch on a piano. Simple gestures give you surprising control over dynamics and timbre.
Fully in your browser, fully private
BL00M runs in the browser and uses modern hand tracking (MediaPipe) that works fully on-device: your camera feed never leaves your device and nothing is sent to a server. What the camera sees is translated locally into hand positions. Nothing more.
So you need no installation, no account and no powerful computer. A laptop or phone with a camera is enough. Open the VXR Hub, choose BL00M, allow camera access and you're playing within ten seconds.
Why a free visual synth?
For the same reason we keep our plugins accessible: the barrier to making music should be low. For many people, BL00M is the first instrument they ever play. At a birthday, in a classroom, or just five minutes in between.
For producers it's more than a toy: it's a different way to find melody ideas. Moving produces different phrases than clicking in a piano roll.
